I have added support for “permadeath” to the game.

This game is intended as an immersive, role-playing, sandbox, and as such, the player should die very little.

However, there does need to be some kind of death system.

For immersive purposes, I have decided to go with permanent death, ie, when your character dies, their story ends. There are no revives, reloads, or respawns. Your only option would be to start again with a new character.

However, to avoid making the game too difficult, actions which should kill the player (Such as bleeding, suffocating, etc) only have a certain percentage chance of actually causing permanent death, not a guarantee. This will allow me to adjust the difficult dynamically, to allow the player to relax and enjoy an immersive role-playing experience without having to worry about their progress being wiped by a single bad decision, while at the same time preventing the player from effecting having a “god mode”, where they cannot die no matter how reckless they are.
