P-0: Virtual World Concept: Update 14: User Variables Part 2
I have now implemented and tested almost all of the main user variables. These include: Endurance (walking, running, and physical activity will be influenced by this. Endurance can be restored by sleeping and eating well, and by resting (reducing physical activity). Stamina (This is closely linked to endurance, but influences short term actions such as […]
P-152: Virtual World Concept Update 94: Fractal Terrain Generation
I am not quite ready to return to this project, but I think I have an idea as to what I’d like to try next. I was generating the terrain before the level loaded, and storing the large number of points generated. I was then trying to create an optimal way of parsing and rendering […]
P-0: Virtual World Concept: Update 13: User Variables
I have spent this week working on the gameplay variables for this project. This turned out to be a lot harder than I thought. I am currently modelling food, water, sleep, nutrition, morale, stamina and endurance, as well as several other variables related to the “Life simulation”. I only have a few variables left to […]
New Torque Forum
The garagegames community have launched a new forum HERE. This forums seems to have replaced the previous one, which had been having problems with spam for some time. The new forum is actively moderated and spam free, and seems to have taken over the brunt of the Torque related discussion from the previous forum.
P-0: Virtual World Concept: Update 12: From MUD’s to MMO’s: “Immersion” in virtual worlds
The first “virtual worlds” were Text-based MUD’s, or “Multi-User Dungeons”. These were essentially chat rooms, with almost all gameplay being conducted through text messages. Some MUD’s had ascii art, or additional gameplay features, but the worlds were predominately text-based. Even though MUD’s do still exist today, online roleplaying gaming and virtual world development has almost […]
P-0: Virtual World Concept: Update 11: Awesomium Integration Part 2
I have recently purchased the Awesomium Integration Pack from HERE. I had to make some minor changes to integrate it into the latest (well, version 3.6) version of T3d, and the latest version of Awesomium, but this was relatively trivial. I now have a fast, reliable, web browser with flash support in the game. The possibilities for […]
P-0: Virtual World Concept: Update 10: Awesomium Integration
Awesomium is a HTML user interface engine. Essentially, it allows a program to access the internet in the same way that a web browser can, and display a web page, play a flash video, etc. This is obviously extremely powerful, and it can be used in various ways with virtual worlds and virtual reality technology to increase […]
P-0: Virtual World Concept: Update 9: Updates, and Basic implementation of Action/Effects System
I have completed some modifications to the database connector which allow me to easily access even large sql query results from script. It is probably not as fast as it could conceivably be, but it is more than fast enough. I have also implemented the context-sensitive menu, although I will need to test this properly […]
