P-172: Unity: Space Environment: Part 14
I have begun modelling the largest remaining room in the structure. This room has large, flat, open areas that I need to texture using the existing texture maps (since it uses the same components in it’s construction, so it should have the same general look and feel). Using the same texture map will mean that I can use a lot less memory to accomplish the same task, however I had some issues scaling the UV’s to the texture.
I eventually had to break up the larger sections of the floor, ceiling, and walls into smaller polygons, and then scale these polygons individually to map them to the texture. This resulted in a texture that I think looks good, and has a scale that feels right given the kind of materials that are being used.
I also discovered the power of “projectors” in Unity. I am using them to pain details on the floor, and the effect looks a lot better than modifying the texture. It is also a lot easier, and more versatile, since I can reuse the same basic texture for multiple rooms, and then add unique details with projectors.
