I have created an official forum for my projects. At the moment, I am intending it to be used mainly for beta testing and support, although it does include a general discussion forum as well.
I am hoping that I have found most of the existing bugs in the tutorial stages of the project at this point. There may be some more minor ones, but there shouldn’t be too many.
I have fixed some issues with the vehicles in the project, as well as some issues with changing zones while under attack.
I am now working on the last major goal for the beta, which is fixing a bug with the grass displacement at non-y-up orientations. This is proving to be difficult, but I hope to get it solved in a week or so.
This time, there were very few bugs found, and the ones that were found were all fixed.
I did discover a few issues that I was not able to reproduce, so I am hoping that these were one-off or testing glitches. I will need to look at them in more detail if they reoccur.
I have fixed two of the three remaining major issues.
There was a problem with the day/night cycle, which I have solved.
I also identified a possible issue with player positions not saving correctly, but I was not able to reproduce this, so it may have been solved or it may have been a testing anomaly.
I have also fixed some issues with the players inventory, and some other minor problems.
I have completed another full round of testing, and uncovered some issues that I hadn’t found previously, but almost all of these were minor.
There are still quite a few issues left, including two more serious issues, but the project is generally going well, and is becoming more stable and reliable.
I think I should be able to look at a beta release in a few months.
I have finished a complete set of complex build testing, and the test were mostly successful, the project did work as expected.
However, there were quite a few bugs found that had gone unnoticed until now.
Most of them were minor, and were fixed very quickly, the rest should be fixed in the coming weeks.
There is only one more serious issue that I am concerned about, and I will be working on that next.
This issue is related to persistently storing the players location. It seems that if the player travels over a long distance and then saves, in some cases, the position isn’t stored properly. When they load the game, there is a slight offset.
This could potentially be an issue with the floating origin system, which could be difficult to fix.
There were some issues with variables not being saved, and some issues with the database, etc, but these have been solved.
The server setup was actually easier than I thought. It has been running continuously for some time, with multiple clients connecting and reconnecting, etc, and there have been no major issues.
