P-165: Solar System Viewer Update 4
This project is now essentially complete. I have some more debugging to do, and I need to add a few minor features such as a more advanced camera system, and camera speed controls, as well as the ability to change the time as well as the date being sent to the Horizons system. I also need to dramatically speed up the time it takes to communicate with the Horizons server, at the moment I have lengthy delays in place to prevent one command from interfering with a subsequent command, this needs to be fixed.
Other than that, the project works, and looks quite well.
The user can specify a year, month, and date, and get a visual representation of the solar system on that date. The user can also change the scale of the planets and the sun, as well as the entire solar systems distance scale, in order to fit the planets better on to the screen. They can also move around the virtual environment using a free camera, or zoom to a particular planet.
I will wait until the actual Oculus Release date before integrating the Oculus SDK, since there will be a newer Oculus SDK out at that point. This project will then be used as a very simple demo and learning tool for the Oculus.
