P-0: Virtual World Concept: Update 15: Gameplay Objects
I have been working on the objects that will be featured in the game. This has obviously been a significant challenge, since I have to document all of the tools, weapons, and general purpose objects that can be used by the player.
I intend to model the stone age period up until the iron age, and possibly slightly beyond that for MS1. I am starting in the stone age period since I want the players to start with absolutely nothing, and develop tools and technologies over time. I think this will more easily lend itself to an emergent “virtual life”.
As I stated in a previous post, I will restrict the advancement of technologies carefully, so that even users who know the correct combinations and crafting process for an advanced item cannot craft it until the world has reached that time period.
I have complete most of the basic objects. They include weapons and hunting tools (axes, bows, arrows, knives, etc) as well as a wide variety of general purpose tools (ropes, twine, farming tools, etc) and miscellaneous items.
I have also added game animals to the database, including boar, deer, rabbit, and various other traditionally hunted game.
I still need to add in a number of objects, including clothing, and some other types of food, as well as make some other changes to the structure of the database.
The next step after that will be to implement the world builder, which will actually place these objects in the world.
