{"id":2392,"date":"2016-03-05T03:49:52","date_gmt":"2016-03-05T03:49:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/phoenixgamedevelopment.com\/blog\/?p=2392"},"modified":"2016-03-05T03:49:52","modified_gmt":"2016-03-05T03:49:52","slug":"oculus-rift-horror-game-concept","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/phoenixgamedevelopment.com\/blog\/oculus-rift-horror-game-concept\/","title":{"rendered":"Oculus Rift Horror Game Concept"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following on from my previous post, I thought it would be interesting to attempt to create a concept of a horror game for the Oculus.<\/p>\n<p>The general idea that I had was to procedurally generate the game world. I would do this by either generating a series of interconnecting rooms, with random placement of doors, walls, etc, so that each time the game is played the world is different. If this worked well, I could try adding more complex procedurally generated structures.<\/p>\n<p>The intention would be to try to provoke fear or dread in the player by creating an intense, immersive experience.<\/p>\n<p>The player would be trapped in this procedural world, and would have to navigate through it, attempting to escape, while avoiding artifically intelligent monsters that would be chasing them.<\/p>\n<p>The player will be armed only with a flashlight, which will illuminate the darkness, but will also attract the monsters. It will also have very limited power, and will not be rechargeable, so the user must decide whether to risk using the light or sneak around in the darkness, not knowing what is lurking just ahead of them.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0world will be a claustrophobic environment, an abandoned building or dilapidated structure filled with debris. This will give the player, and their enemies, many places to hide, and enhance the stress factor of the game.<\/p>\n<p>I can also resort to the old faithful technique of jumpscares. \u00a0Jump scares are cheap, but when used properly, they can be effective.<\/p>\n<p>I can also tie this project in to my virtual world project, since the procedural generation concept will be used in the virtual world as well.<\/p>\n<p>I have created some concept art already for this project, and the next step is to create a demo of the world builder.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Following on from my previous post, I thought it would be interesting to attempt to create a concept of a horror game for the Oculus.
