The previous datacache was a concept only, and was not designed to withstand harsh conditions.<\/p>\n<p>This new data storage device is made from Perspex and has a rubber seal, which should make it completely waterproof. I may also include a one-way valve so that I can pump the air out and create a vacuum. This will prevent condensation from forming inside the device, and will also prevent corrosion due to oxidation.<br \/>\nA simpler way to prevent condensation, however, would be to seal the device when the air is as cold as possible, (and therefore carrying as little moisture as possible) and include a desiccant in the container.<\/p>\n<p>The device, from top to bottom, is 146.14 mm, and it is 1oomm by 100mm square. It will contain data in the form of high-capacity microSD cards, as well as a microcontroller with a clock and a radio transmitter. After a certain period of time has elapse, the microcontroller will begin emitting a signal at regular intervals, allowing an individual with a radio receiver to track down the device.<\/p>\n<p>I will not use a wireless data transfer system for this device, since wireless protocols and software will change radically in the coming years.
