I have mostly figured out how to export characters from Daz into Unity.
There are issues with both animation and textures.
I have noticed that a lot of animations don’t play properly (The character is warped) unless I add a T-Pose to the beginning of the animation. IE, instead of transitioning from one animation to the next, I transition to a T-pose, and then from that to the next animation.
I have also noticed that I need to use a “legacy” rig in Unity to properly play embedded animations from the FBX, I couldn’t get the “generic” and “humanoid” controllers to play animations. This could be an issue in the future, if I decide to combine Daz animations with mecanim animations.
Finally, Daz does not export all of the textures. It seems to only export the albedo map, and not the normals, specular, bump maps, etc. I needed to manually copy these texture files from the daz directory into the character directory in unity, and then either create a new material using these maps, or click “extract from prefab” in unity to break the existing materials (from the character file) out of the prefab, and then add the additional maps.
This substantially improved the quality of the graphics.
