P0-MS5: Part 364: Debugging, Optimisation

by on Apr.29, 2018, under Astral Realms, P-0, Software and Games, Spiritus Astrum

I have compared the quality of my current procedural graphics to a static scene that I created when I first started using Unity, and the static scene does still look better.

Static scenes are always going to look better than procedural ones, because the artist/level designer can take the time to set everything up properly, place objects, shape the terrain, etc. With procedural generation, this can’t be done.

With further improvements, I should be able to increase the level of realism and detail with the procedural generator, but even now it looks quite good.

I haven’t spent any time on the lighting or shading, so everything seems too bright, or too overexposed in the procedural images, but other than that, the grass, terrain, and trees, look quite similar in quality.
