Online Software Selling for Desktop Software

by on May.22, 2014, under News, Software and Games

I have finished creating and setting up an online store, using openCart. The store link is HERE. I have not customised the look and feel yet, or added many products, but the store is functional. I will be listing a number of products on here in the future.

I have also signed up with a number of online marketplaces, including Payloadz, Cnet Download, TrialPay, and Softpedia.

Selling desktop software have a more difficult route to market than Android or Iphone apps, since there is no single store to sell your products. You have to divide your attention amongst many of them. I am confident however that I can build up a library of desktop software on various sites, including my own, over time.

I prefer writing desktop software and games, since there is so much more scope with regards to what is possible. Mobile devices are becoming more powerful and more fully-featured all the time, and are constantly being updated with more and more hardware and peripherals, but a desktop app will always be capable of a lot more.

For example, the arduino projects, (such as the random number generator) that I have been working on are only compatible with desktop computers, and anything featuring graphic or CPU intensive processing would need the additonal power of a desktop machine as well.
